FACTORS BEHIND THE
RISING UP OF BJP IN WEST BENGAL, INDIA
BJP has become the second largest party in West Bengal in the
last Panchayet Election held on 14th May, 2018. The existence of
Left [CPI (M), CPI, RSP, FB etc.] and Congress have become minor. Though the
Left Party was in the power of WB Government for 34 years. Before that,
Congress led the Government. In this context, there are some key factors for
the rising of BJP jumping over Left and Congress.
1. Aggressiveness of the ruling party- Aggressiveness
of ruling party against the workers and leaders of Left Party has decreased the
spreading of Left politics. Leaders are being unable to save their workers
fighting against the threats of ruling party. Of course a peaceful situation is
essential to culture the Left ideology. To fill up the oppositional vacant, BJP
has taken an effective role as central ruling party.
2. Feeling safe with the ruling party- In West
Bengal socio-economic structure has been politicized in general. Political
interfere is a part of thing in everyday matter of life. So a part of peoples
finds safe shelter under ruling party. For this, a part of Left workers has
joined ruling party. It may be either in TMC or BJP.
3. Leadership deficiency of Left &
Congress-
Basically, TMC is one-woman-leader based party, not ideological like Left. So,
to defend or to offend Mamata Banerjee, an acceptable leader is essential in
Bengal politics. But, at present, there is no such charismatic leader in the
opposition i.e. Left and Congress.
4. No complain against BJP in WB- There is no complain against BJP in
West Bengal politics. Congress and Left ruled West Bengal Government
beforehand. So, there are so many complaints against them as
anti-establishment. But, as a new party in WB politics, BJP gets the opportunity
to play in the field of politics as ‘fair boy’.
5. Polarization politics- Communal
polarization has taken the place of ideological polarization which was existed
in the Bengal politics. Ruling party has a special favor towards minority
contradicting secular politics. On the contrary, BJP has taken the place of the
opposite pole representing the majority i.e. Hinduism.
6. Tit for tat- Peoples believe that a ruling party can offend another
ruling party. The ruling party of Bengal
has taken every places of democratic forum by 'hook and crook'. There is no place for the opposition
here. So, the supporters of the opposition has gone under BJP. They have
started to believe that only BJP can resist Bengal ruling party being a central ruling party.
